Learn why Okinawa mozuku is widely used as a premium raw material for high-purity fucoidan supplements.
Okinawa mozuku seaweed is recognized as one of the most valuable natural sources of fucoidan extract in the world. The growing region, seawater quality, and biological characteristics of Okinawa mozuku directly affect fucoidan purity, composition, and overall quality.
Among edible seaweeds, Okinawa mozuku contains significantly higher levels of fucoidan than wakame or kelp — often reported at around five times more. This makes Okinawa mozuku one of the most efficient botanical sources for fucoidan extraction.
Thick Okinawa mozuku grows in warm subtropical oceans and is valued for both texture and nutritional composition. Carefully selected Okinawa mozuku varieties are used as the raw material for Fucoidan AF Premium to ensure consistently high fucoidan concentration.
Mozuku absorbs vitamins and minerals directly from seawater as it grows.
For this reason, the quality of seawater is extremely important.
If mozuku were to grow in polluted seawater containing chemical substances,
radioactive materials, or heavy metals, those substances would also be absorbed.
Okinawa Mozuku used for Fucoidan AF Premium is grown in clean seawater, and no harmful levels of heavy metals or arsenic have been detected in standard laboratory testing. This has been verified by inspections conducted by the Japan Food Analysis Center and the Japan Frozen Food Inspection Association.
Because fucoidan is consumed directly by people, we are extremely particular about the seawater in which mozuku is grown.
One important factor that determines the quality of fucoidan is the sulfate group, which plays a key role in its biological activity.
Fucoidan AF Premium contains an exceptionally high level of sulfate groups: 290 mg per 100 g, which is more than 13 times higher than the ultra-low molecular fucoidan products previously sold.
About ten years ago, purification technology for fucoidan was not well established, and refined raw materials were limited. At that time, fucoidan from Tonga was often considered superior.
However, as purification technology advanced, it became clear that fucoidan derived from Okinawa Mozuku contains higher levels of key components such as fucose and sulfate groups. Today, Okinawa Mozuku-derived fucoidan is recognized worldwide as a high-standard, premium-quality fucoidan.
